The Book

Rachel is working on her first book:

Adventures of a Spiritual Sexologist: a Nomad’s Memoir of Travel, Lust, and the Spiritual Quest

The manuscript is in the editing stage. Rachel is now in search of a literary agent and publisher. Her plan is to make this the first of a trilogy of philosophical adventure memoirs.

About the Book

Adventures of a Spiritual Sexologist (a working title) is an existential study that reveals the divine in the taboo through tales of adventure travel, romantic encounters, and spiritual inquiry. The story opens with college graduation where wanderlust sets Rachel rolling between jobs, countries, and heart-opening characters, springing from a need to understand the deep recesses of the self and the true limits of human potential. Between motorcycling Vietnamese backroads, camping on a dilapidated, 19th century ship in Manhattan, and sailing to Central America on a handmade boat with indigenous Panamanians, she falls in love with a homeless man, sailors, and other unsavories. Embarking on epic journeys, she grapples with the questions of “What is the individual truly capable of?” and “What is Truth?” As she begins to hone in on her abilities and dreams, she discovers the subtle powers of the ego and the freedom of living fully in the moment.

Through the narration of exotic exploits and debaucherous escapades, she shows that the true gems of this life are found, not in the promised treasure chests of risk-free living, but in the unraveling of the sordid and shadowy spaces of the heart. In probing the underbelly of life with an unapologetic sense of humor, Adventures of a Spiritual Sexologist turns an adventurer’s tale into a rich study of human existence.
